Krome Deliver Virtualised Storage Infrastructure at HTA

Leading design and architectural consultancy HTA choose Krome to implement new virtualised storage infrastructure.

With a multitude of in-house design disciplines and a growing number of award winning residential and urban design contracts in place, including the Olympic Way development; design and architectural consultancy HTA required a fully protected, highly available infrastructure to support design productivity. Working with Krome Technologies, HTA now have a virtualised server and storage environment giving them improved performance and simplified management.

HTA’s IT Manager enlisted the help of independent technology integration partner Krome Technologies, who he had worked with in previous roles within the media industry: “Krome have worked successfully on a number of projects with me throughout my career, having always been impressed with their high service levels, I knew that I could rely on them to advise and implement the most appropriate technologies for the HTA requirements,” he explains.

Working in conjunction with Krome Technologies, he evaluated storage solutions from several leading vendors with price, performance and ease of scalability being key criteria. The selected solution; comprising of VMware VSphere 4.1, a Dot Hill AssuredSAN 2332 iSCSI Array and Veeam Backup & Replication v5, was decided on based upon its combined reliability and feature rich functionalities, such as inbuilt snap shotting, all offered at a fraction of the cost of the competitive solutions.

HTA decided to base the new storage infrastructure on iSCSI technology for simplicity and to standardise on Ethernet as the transport within HTA’s data centre. By combining the proven reliability of the iSCSI Dot Hill AssuredSAN product with virtualisation technologies such as VMware and Veeam, HTA could implement an intelligent, sophisticated, simple to manage, enterprise class solution.
